Which Document Scanners Support Windows on ARM? A Complete Compatibility Guide

Which Document Scanners Support Windows on ARM? A Complete Compatibility Guide

ARM-based Windows PCs are here. With the rise of Copilot+ PCs and other ARM-powered devices from manufacturers like Microsoft, Dell, HP, Lenovo, and Samsung, businesses across healthcare, finance, government, and enterprise are evaluating how their existing peripherals — especially document scanners — will work with this new hardware.

The short answer: not all scanners are ready yet. Native ARM-compatible drivers are required for full scanner functionality on ARM-based Windows devices, and manufacturer support varies widely. At Scanner One, we carry scanners from all the major brands and want to help you understand exactly where things stand so you can make informed decisions.

This guide breaks down the current state of ARM driver support across the document scanner industry.

Why ARM Driver Support Matters for Scanners

ARM architecture powers the newest generation of AI-ready Windows PCs. These systems deliver outstanding performance with greater power efficiency and enable local, on-device AI processing for faster workflows. However, for ARM-based computers to work properly with connected peripherals, those devices need native ARM-compatible drivers.

Without native ARM drivers, scanner users can experience:

  • Complete incompatibility — the scanner simply does not work
  • Workflow interruptions and errors
  • Reduced functionality and missing features
  • Loss of TWAIN/ISIS driver support needed by capture software

Standard x86/x64 drivers cannot be emulated reliably for hardware devices like scanners, so native ARM driver support from the manufacturer is essential.

ARM Scanner Driver Support by Manufacturer

Here is a factual overview of where each major scanner manufacturer stands on ARM driver support as of early 2026.

Epson — Native ARM Drivers Available Across Full Current Lineup

On November 6, 2025, Epson America announced the availability of ARM-compatible drivers for Windows across its current and select legacy scanner models. Epson’s ARM drivers work on both ARM-based and traditional x86 (AMD/Intel) PCs, and they require Windows 11 (Version 24H2 or later).

ARM driver support covers Epson’s full range of current scanners — compact desktop, workgroup, network, flatbed, large-format, portable, and photo models — as well as select legacy models. For the complete list and driver downloads, visit Epson’s ARM Driver Support page.

Ricoh (Formerly Fujitsu) — Limited ARM Support for Select ScanSnap Models

On December 9, 2025, Ricoh released ARM-compatible driver support for two ScanSnap models — the ScanSnap iX2500 and ScanSnap iX2400 — via ScanSnap Home version 3.4.0. A firmware update for the scanner is also required.

Ricoh has stated that ARM support will be extended to other current ScanSnap models in future updates, but no specific timeline has been announced. It is also worth noting that ABBYY FineReader for ScanSnap — the bundled OCR software — does not currently support ARM processors.

The entire Ricoh fi-series lineup of professional and production document scanners — including current models like the fi-8170, fi-8270, fi-8190, and fi-8930 — does not have ARM driver support at this time, and Ricoh has not announced a timeline for adding it.

Canon — No ARM Scanner Driver Support

Canon has confirmed that its CanoScan products and imageFORMULA scanner drivers are not compatible with Windows on ARM. Canon’s IJ Scan Utility is not available for ARM-based computers. Canon has released ARM64 print drivers for some of its imageRUNNER devices, but scanning functionality remains unsupported on ARM. No timeline for ARM scanner support has been announced.

Kodak Alaris — No ARM Scanner Driver Support

Kodak Alaris does not currently offer ARM-compatible drivers for any of its scanner models. System requirements across their current lineup — including the S3000 and S5000 series — specify Intel x86/x64 processors only. No announcements or timelines for ARM driver support have been made public.

Ricoh fi-Series — ARM Support Not Yet Available

The Ricoh fi-series of professional and production scanners does not currently support ARM-based Windows PCs. This includes current models such as the fi-8170, fi-8270, fi-8190, and fi-8930. Ricoh has not announced a timeline for fi-series ARM driver support. If your organization uses fi-series scanners and is planning a move to ARM-based PCs, this is an important factor to consider in your planning.

Canon and Kodak Alaris Scanners — ARM Support Not Yet Available

For organizations currently using Canon or Kodak Alaris document scanners, ARM driver support is not available at this time. Neither manufacturer has announced a timeline for ARM-compatible drivers.

  • Canon — Canon has confirmed that its imageFORMULA scanner drivers and IJ Scan Utility do not support Windows on ARM.
  • Kodak Alaris — System requirements for all current Kodak Alaris scanners specify Intel x86/x64 processors. No ARM driver support has been announced.

We recommend checking with these manufacturers directly for the latest information on future ARM support plans. If ARM compatibility is a requirement for your next hardware refresh, we are happy to help you evaluate your options.

System Requirements for ARM Scanner Drivers

  • Epson ARM drivers require Windows 11 (Version 24H2 or later).
  • Ricoh ScanSnap ARM support requires ScanSnap Home version 3.4.0 or later, plus a firmware update for the scanner. Note that ABBYY FineReader for ScanSnap does not support ARM processors.

Planning Your Transition to ARM-Based PCs

If your organization is evaluating ARM-based Windows PCs, scanner compatibility should be part of the conversation. Here are some practical considerations:

  • Inventory your current scanners — Check whether your existing models have ARM driver support from their manufacturer.
  • Check your capture software — Verify that your document capture, OCR, and workflow software also supports ARM. Some bundled software (such as ABBYY FineReader for ScanSnap) does not yet work on ARM.
  • Consider a mixed-fleet approach — If ARM compatibility is not available for your current brand, you may be able to add ARM-compatible scanners alongside your existing fleet during the transition.
  • Stay informed — ARM driver support across the scanner industry is evolving. Manufacturers that do not offer ARM drivers today may release them in the future.
